Course Title:        Basic Table Saw Operation

Course Description:

·        Skills and knowledge to be gained.  Fundamental understanding of the table saw parts and controls and how to use them to safely perform cross-cutting and ripping operations.

·        Machines and tools to be used.  Table saw, miter gauge and rip fence and some jigs.

·        Learning process/procedure.  Participants will be given an overview of the table saw, covering: its general purposes for woodworking; its individual parts and their purposes; how the parts function both individually and in concert; and some of the jigs that make cutting operations safer and more accurate. After a demonstration, and under the instructor’s supervision, the participants will: perform various cross-cutting and ripping operations using the miter gauge and push sticks. To facilitate these operations, participants will: set the rip fence to specific measurements; use the blade height and angle adjustment wheels to set a specific angle and height for cutting and use the miter gauge to make a variety of angled cuts.   During these operations, the participants will learn the value of the safety features provided by the blade guard and anti-kick-back device.

·        Project/product to be made.  None – this is a tool-use training course.

·        Duration of course.  A single session of 2-3 hours.
