COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Course Title:  Basic Table Router/Hand-held Routers

Course No.     305

Course Description:  Introduction to the use of both table-based and hand-held routers in free-hand and fixed-position operations using, where appropriate, various accessories and jigs.

 

·        Skills and knowledge to be gained.  Participants will learn how to safely operate a variety of routers to perform such operations as edge profiling, cutting dados and rabbits, preparing rails and stiles for door panels, creating raised panels, cutting dove tails and using templates to make repetitive cuts. 

·        Machines and tools to be used.  This course will utilize a variety of routers that, while essentially identical in construction, can be used to  perform general routing operations but  are also dedicated to particular uses such as dove-tailing.

·        Learning process/procedure.  Through hands-on involvement, participants will use various routers to perform all the operations demonstrated by the instructor.

·        Prerequisite skills; what level of competency/expertise is required for safe, successful participation. Participants should possess a rudimentary understanding of the intended purposes and uses of the router and be aware that this particular tool operates at extremely high speeds thereby requiring an enhanced sense of safety needs. 

·        Project/product to be made.  None - this is a tool-use training course.

·        Duration of course.  The course will run over 3 weeks in three-hour sessions.
