Course Title:        Basic Band Saw Operation

Course Description:

·        Skills and knowledge to be gained.  Fundamental understanding of the band saw and how to use it to safely perform various cutting operations.

·        Machines and tools to be used.   Band Saw

·        Learning process/procedure.  Participants will be given an overview of the band saw through explanations of its various parts and demonstrations of how it can be used for resawing, ripping and cross cutting operations. Participants will perform hands-on operations to get experience in making these cuts, as well as learning how to make curves and circles. Participants will learn how to tension a blade, correctly set the blade guard height, rear guide bearings and guide blocks.  Some discussion on various blade types and uses will be included; however, changing of the blades is reserved for the Advanced Band Saw Course.

·        Prerequisite skills:  None

·        Project/product to be made.  None – this is a tool-use training course.

·        Duration of course.  A single session of 1-2 hours.

·        Cost of materials beyond $10 fee.  None
