Title: Shaker Table

Course
Description: During this course, participants will employ a procedure involving
various machines and tools to produce a solid cherry Shaker table with a
drawer.

Skills and knowledge to be gained. You will learn to:
o Prepare the rough stock
lumber
o Rip boards to width using
the table saw.
o Cross-cut stock to length
using the cut-off saw.
o Joint surfaces flat and
square.
o Plane boards to thickness.

Machines and tools to be used. This
course will employ a variety of machines and tools such as the table saw,
jointer, planer, and the mortising tool.
·
Learning process/procedure. Beginning with rough lumber, participants will
joint one surface and an edge flat and square and then plane the stock to
thickness. Using the table saw and
cut-off saw, stock will be cut to proper widths and lengths to form the various
parts. Mortise and tenon joints will be
formed using the table saw and the mortising tool. Parts will be assembled using glue and
clamps. Finally, sanders will be used to
prepare surfaces for finishing.

Prerequisite skills; what level of competency/expertise is required for
safe, successful participation. Beginning level skills from the certification
process will be upgraded to intermediate skills through this class.

Project/product to be made. Participants will build a 14”x16”x24”high solid
cherry Shaker table with a drawer.

Duration of course. The course will meet for 5 evening sessions of 3
hours each.
·
Cost of materials beyond $10 fee. The average cost of the project is $20 plus
the $10 fee for $30 total.
