COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

Course Title:  Basic Wood Finishing

Course Description:

·        Skills and knowledge to be gained. Participants will learn how to apply an appropriate finish based on analysis of the kind and condition of wood used and the desired outcome.  Instruction will include preparing the surface using proper sanding techniques and materials, recognition of the types of finishes available and their proper application.  Participants will become familiar with stains, sealers, wood fillers, and waterborne coatings as well as applicators.

 

·        Machines and tools to be used.   Hand-held sanders, when appropriate.

 

·        Learning process/procedure.  Starting with a completed piece of raw-wood furniture, choose among different stains and topcoats to produce the best results for the desired final appearance.

 

·        Prerequisite skills; what level of competency/expertise is required for safe, successful participation. None—except a desire to produce an outstanding final appearance of the finish selected.

 

·        Project/product to be made.  Application of a finish applied to your wood project.

 

·        Duration of course. 2 consecutive 50-minute classes with a 10 minute break.

 

·        Cost of materials beyond $10 fee.  None
