Course
Title: Build a Musical Instrument

Description:

Skills and knowledge to be gained. The purpose of the class will be to learn the
basic concepts of building fretted musical instruments.

Machines and tools to be used. Woodworking skills requirements are relatively
basic and may involve the use of the table saw, jointer, surface planer, band
saw and/or scroll saw.
·
Learning process/procedure. The instructor will demonstrate skills and then
participants will employ those skills in making a complete musical instrument.
·
Prerequisite skills; what level of competency/expertise is required for
safe, successful participation. Certification level woodworking skills plus
enthusiasm to learn and commitment to stick with it.

Project/product to be made. The end result will be to have built a
three-stringed “A” Stick with frets. The
“A” Stick is a cousin of the dulcimer, but it is played like a guitar. Makes a fun instrument to play around with
and would serve as a decorative conversation piece.
·
Duration of course. 2 to 3 hours per session for 4 to 8 weeks, as
necessary.
·
Cost of materials beyond $10 fee. Cost to be determined.
