Course Title:  Stained Glass

Course Number : 804

Instructor : Buddy Neenan

Course Description:

·        Skills and knowledge to be gained.  Participants will learn the following skills for working with stained glass.  How to:

o       Cut and grind flat glass to a specific shape.

o       Apply copper foil to the glass and prepare it for spot soldering.

o       Fasten the piece to a pattern.

o       Complete the soldering process and finalize the project.

o       Change the color of the soldering.

o       Transfer the pattern to a template.

·        Machines and tools to be used.  This course will employ the use of a glass cutting tool, a bench grinder and a soldering tool.

·        Learning process/procedure.  Starting with a number of glass pieces, participants will use the cutting tool to cut the glass pieces close to the desired shapes; the edges of the pieces will then be ground smooth using a grinder and brought to the final dimensions.  Next, the copper foil is added by folding the foil over the edges of the grass pieces and the pieces are spot-soldered together.  The pieces are then transferred to a pattern board where the soldering is completed.  Participants then have the option of changing the color of the soldering using a chemical reaction.  Finally, the soldered piece is transferred to a template that can be used to create identical pieces.
