VWC Board of Directors

Each January the membership of the Villages Woodworkers Club (VWC) elects three directors for a three year term, The Nominating Committee has the duty to present three willing and able candidates for this position at the November meeting.  At that time additional nominations may be submitted by the general membership.

Qualifications for the position are:

  • Paid membership
  • In current good standing
  • Have a strong interest in woodworking and the importance of the VWC
  • Be willing serve and give consent to the nomination

If there are willing candidates for this position, make the nomination at the November meeting. Each candidate will be requested to prepare a short biography and statement of purpose for publication on the VWC Web site and to present at the December meeting.

The November meeting of the VWC is Tuesday, November 13, 7:00 PM at the Laurel Manor Recreation Center.

Lumber availability

The VWC has a quantity of wood in the lumber storage room available for PURCHASE.  Except for the occasional “cut-off” or wood abandoned by a member, NO wood is to be removed from the room unless the cost has been fully paid, and then only with the knowledge of the Shop monitor.  Removal of wood that is in the VWC inventory that has not been purchased will be cause for a member’s membership to be terminated.

The VWC provides an ordering service and a small inventory of wood for member convenience, but this wood IS NOT FREE.  If purchase of existing inventory is desired, see a Shop Monitor to verify and assist in the purchase.  If you wish to order lumber, see the person at the front desk for the ordering information.

No member should be “scouting” the lumber storage area except with the knowledge of the Shop Monitor.

Areas of help needed

The Woodshop is in need of those who have a desire to help in the instructive process in three important areas:

  • Certification
  • Evening classes
  • Shop Monitor training

Instructors who have shouldered the load for these important functions are in need of relief.  Many have been doing these functions for two or three years. We need to keep this valuable talent from “burning out.”  Much of the activity is of a short term nature, but is repetitive.  It is a case of getting more hands on board in order to lighten the load.  If you have any questions or have serious interest in serving the Club in this capacity, see Murry Bishop (all), Paul Greene (certification), classes (John Heise), and Charlie Shark (Shop Monitor Training.)  If it is any kind of inducement, serious involvement in these areas would qualify you for an exemption from Shop Monitor duty – any takers?

Education program

If you are involved in evening classes – or will become involved in the future - please treat this time with respect.  It is unfortunate that instructors show up for a class and discover that ¾ of the class doesn’t bother to show up, or even call the instructor to inform him/her.  It is a simple matter of respect for those donating their time for the benefit of the members to treat their efforts positively rather than with indifference.  If you are incapacitated and are prevented from making a class, call and discuss the situation with the instructor.  It is a real “downer” to have to face an empty class and runs the danger of the instructor quitting in disappointment.

Thanks.
